Introducing Briefs

The working papers are deliberately slow. Each one is a survey, archived on Zenodo with a permanent DOI, meant to hold up for years. That cadence is right for the core arguments — but it leaves a gap. A lot happens between papers: a new OEM platform ships, a reuse pattern shows up in a place it shouldn’t, a reader sends a correction worth thinking about out loud.

Briefs fill that gap. They are short — a few hundred words — and they make one observation at a time. They are not peer-reviewed, not archived with a DOI, and not a substitute for the papers. Think of them as the lab notebook: where an idea gets aired before it is solid enough for a working paper, or where a small result that does not need a full paper still deserves to be on the record.

Everything here stays open. Briefs are free, the working papers remain CC-BY 4.0 on Zenodo, and nothing on this site is gated. If a brief turns out to matter, it will eventually be folded into a paper — with the citation trail intact.

The cadence we are aiming for is weekly, with longer monthly deep-dives when a topic needs room. Subscribe if you want them in your inbox; otherwise they live here, indexed newest-first.
